The first thing anyone sees.
Front walks take more abuse than patios do. They are salted through the winter, walked on daily, and they usually settle towards the drive where the ground was never properly compacted in the first place.
What we did
The walk was rebuilt over a new base, laid in bluestone with a brick soldier course to hold the edge and keep the curve reading cleanly against the lawn. Where the ground falls away towards the garage, stone steps were set between pillar walls with lanterns on top, so the level change is lit and obvious after dark.
Why it holds
The border is what keeps a walkway looking straight years later. Without a restrained edge the stones migrate outwards and the line goes soft.
