Cooking outside, properly.
An outdoor kitchen only works if the terrace around it works. There has to be room to stand at the grill without blocking the route between the house and the table, and the surface has to drain away from the building.
The build
The island is built in the same stone as the surrounding walls with a solid counter over it, housing the grill, storage and a refrigerator. A raised bar with its own seating runs off it, so whoever is cooking is not stuck on their own at one end of the patio.
The terrace
The paving is laid in a mixed-size pattern with a cut border, and the whole terrace is graded to fall away from the house.
